Overview

Summary of Responsibilities:

Performs and leads risk-based internal audit activities for the Company and its subsidiaries.  Leads risk-based integrated reviews of financial, operational, systems and management controls of the Company and strategically analyzes concepts at the project level.  Provides assistance and coordination to the external auditors and regulatory auditors, while maintaining effective working relationships with business unit management.  Provides consulting services to management on business critical strategic initiatives.  Leads projects and project resources on complex audit projects.  Performs and supervises more difficult internal audit projects and services.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads auditors and performs risk-based integrated audit procedures on scheduled audit projects in accordance with approved risk-based audit programs in a timely, efficient, professional manner, and develops audit plans that effectively and efficiently incorporate all sub-process within the entire project cycle.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of internal control concepts for each audit project and provides timely information to the Internal Audit Director during the audit project regarding weaknesses noted and recommendations for corrective action.
  • For assigned audit projects, demonstrates the ability to clearly document and evaluate the internal controls present in the manual and automated systems being reviewed, identify internal control strengths and weaknesses, including compensating controls to mitigate risk.
  • Prepares and reviews audit work papers that accurately and sufficiently document audit tests performed, in accordance with departmental guidelines (i.e., Audit Procedures Manual (APM)) and Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
  • Drafts and reviews written audit reports that accurately:  1) describe results of tests performed, the nature of control weaknesses and exposures; 2) express an opinion on the adequacy of internal controls and overall procedures; and 3) identify practical recommendations for improvements.
  • Assists in the performance of a periodic risk assessment of all Company functions in order to recommend appropriate audit projects as part of the audit planning process.
  • Provides internal controls consulting on significant strategic company initiatives and leads auditors and other resources assigned to consulting project teams.
  • Performs special reviews/projects as requested, including system conversions, systems migrations, reengineering initiatives, etc.
  • Works closely with all auditors to blur the lines between financial and systems audit and to execute the COSO risk-based auditing methodology.
  • Leads internal auditors and projects that are relied upon by the Company’s external auditors and regulatory auditors to assure appropriate audit coverage, avoiding duplication of activities and ensure that overall audit objectives are met in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Implements computer assisted audit techniques and practices auditing by exception techniques to improve audit effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Supervises work product of auditors or Company resources on assignments with a focus on managing the project cycle.
  • Leads closing conference meetings with auditee, presents the results of risk-based integrated audit projects, and sells recommendations to management to improve the control structure and negotiates report findings with appropriate levels of management.
  • Provides strategic analyses at the project level to efficiently and effectively execute project assignments, and recommends strategies that enhance management’s ability to implement corrective action. 
  • Leads resources on project assignments, focusing on training and development.
  • Completes the Internal Audit self-study program in order to facilitate advanced knowledge of internal control concepts, audit testing techniques, data processing knowledge, financial, systems, and operational audit knowledge, and human relations skills.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Selection Criteria:

  • Proven substantial experience as an Auditor in a “Big Four” accounting firm or Fortune 500-type company with demonstrated advanced knowledge of internal control concepts and risk-based audit techniques.
  • Demonstrated advanced and thorough knowledge of accounting or information systems and risk-based integrated auditing.
  • Proven ability to develop or adapt established risk-based audit programs/procedures on an as-needed basis.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple projects/assignments (4 to 5) simultaneously and completing assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis.  Possesses a strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills.  Solid project management with proven experience in successfully planning, executing, and maintaining a project from start to finish.
  • Proven strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated success interpreting and communicating business needs between internal groups and external vendors in a clear, focused and concise manner.  Will be expected to provide examples of written audit reports.
  • Demonstrated work experience leading and directing projects and resources to initiate a recommended course of action to solve a problem or increase efficiency.
  • Proven experience dealing with pressure, occasionally in a confrontational environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate a large amount of information and apply analytical problem-solving skills and financial quantification skills.

Work Setting:

·       This position works in an office setting and remains continuously in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings. Requires visual acuity to read a variety of correspondence, reports and forms, and to prepare and analyze data.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, information systems, computer science, or related field of study.

Computer Skills and Knowledge of Hardware & Software Required:

  • Proficiency in the use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Visio).
  • Significant experience auditing automated systems, including mainframes and LAN- and WAN-based applications.
  • Significant experience with utilizing automated audit tools, including ACL, Easytrieve Plus, etc.

Certifications & Licenses (i.e., Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.):

  • Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).

Position Demands:

  • Less than 5% travel required annually.
