Overview

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Client Portfolio Manager interacts with investment management, sales, marketing and client service to effectively communicate with external stakeholders (clients/consultants) and assist in the ongoing marketing of fixed income and multi-asset strategies.  Works to competitively position strategies by being actively involved in marketing initiatives, institutional client service and new business development efforts.  Represents investment teams by acting as a specialized source of strategy and market knowledge and as an internal resource on non-investment related activities. Enables the firm to develop a more proactive approach to marketing, sales, relationship management and product development on specific strategies and/or asset classes.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Attends client meetings and represents the Portfolio Manager as the strategy expert and proxy.
  • Attends prospect presentations and consultant meetings as the asset class or strategy expert (and proxy for the PM).
  • Answers client servicing/sales-related questions, articulates investment team views and responds to performance and other investment-related issues.
  • Provides perspective and updates (investment strategy positioning and performance context, voice, and messaging) to internal business partners and others responsible for producing and delivering content to internal and external audiences.
  • Owns and works with marketing/client service to maintain content for Fixed Income and multi-asset strategies (RFPs, pitchbooks, client review materials).
  • Creates strategic messaging specifically targeted for the consultant community.
  • Develops intellectual capital that will enhance recognition of the firm within the consultant community.
  • Analyzes, produces and communicates product-related information both reactively and proactively to key stakeholder.
  • Assesses industry trends and the competitive landscape for specific strategies/distribution channels, and develops defensive/offensive product positioning points to be used in marketing and business development process for institutional fixed income strategies.
  • Leads effort to create collateral with investment team based on current market trends, portfolio positioning, investment themes being implemented or any other relevant topics.
  • Assists business development efforts to raise third-party assets through the development of campaigns and competitive positioning in the market.
  • Educates internal audiences on investment strategies; articulates investment philosophy, process and outlook, as well as performance and positioning
  • Acts as internal fixed income-specific resource in cross functional projects, including product updates, new product implementation and client onboarding.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of financial services experience with a focus on investment management, consulting organizations, institutions or sell-side experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in global markets, economics and portfolio theory, with specificity towards portfolio management. Prior experience or understanding of capital markets with the demonstrated ability to grasp investment products.  Background or knowledge in marketing or sales support
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear, accurate, focused and concise manner. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare correspondence and reports in a manner that is understandable to others and prepared using a prescribed format.
  • Demonstrated well developed quantitative skills specifically in finance.  Examples would include basic financial modeling skills, cash flow analysis of various securities types, familiarity with valuation concepts and exposure to return and time-value-of-money concepts.
  • Proven investment analytical skills in fixed income (and related subsectors).  Demonstrated ability to handle analytical discussions with senior investment professionals with proficiency.  Includes demonstrated experience identifying, defining and resolving complex problems, and collecting or interpreting data to establish facts and draw valid conclusions to provide effective resolutions. 
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to break complex deliverables into smaller, simpler tasks, and coordinate collection of data and information from multiple resources on time and in line with original budget/project objectives.
  • Proven experience coordinating multiple projects/assignments simultaneously and completing assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis.  Must demonstrate strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate superb presentation skills with experience conveying information in a clear, focused and concise manner.  Demonstrated use of strong listening and communication techniques and presentation software.
  • Proven strong self-confidence and the ability to work effectively under pressure and earn respect from senior professionals with strong personalities.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and on a team.  Experience must include identifying and resolving problems where independent and collaborative decision-making and initiative were demonstrated.  Must be able to cite examples of self-motivation and experience working under limited supervision.
  • Proven ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor when handling stressful situations.  Provides examples of handling difficult situations effectively while maintaining high volumes of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and maintain confidential information.

Work Setting:

  • This position works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires visual acuity to read a variety of correspondence, reports and forms, and to prepare and analyze data in an accurate, neat and thorough manner.
  • Requires the ability to continuously make repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in math, science, economics, finance or statistics; complementary skills in oral and written communications.
  • MBA and/or CFA preferred.

Computer Skills and Knowledge of Hardware & Software Required:

  • Advanced word processing, presentation software and spreadsheet applications with ability to create sophisticated charts, graphs and reports while adhering to strictly defined format standards with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of investment industry portfolio management, attribution and reporting systems such as Bloomberg, FactSet, Eagle PACE, eVestment, eAse Exchange, StyleAdvisor, Zephyr and PMAPS.

Certifications & Licenses (i.e., Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.):

  • None required.

Position Demands:

  • Extended hours (nights and weekends) during peak workloads or special projects.
  • Regular travel by car and plane required.
