Overview

The Private Equity Investment Intern is a member of the Private Equity investment team whose main responsibilities include supporting the investment team in sourcing, executing and monitoring private equity investments. The Private Equity Investment Intern supports due diligence on both primary fund commitments, structured secondary transactions and single asset co-investments. This due diligence process includes on-site meetings and company level due diligence, market/industry research and competitive positioning, CEO, management team and customer referencing, performance benchmarking, bottoms-up financial modeling, and key transaction negotiations and legal considerations. The Private Equity Investment Intern is responsible for summarizing key due diligence findings and updating the Private Equity team in highly collaborative team diligence and decision-making sessions.The Private Equity Investment Intern also plays a role in helping to monitor the performance and other key aspects of FWCPG's existing Private Equity portfolios. The Private Equity Investment Intern liaises with the Operations team on reporting production for FWCPG, including performance calculations and monitoring of the legacy portfolios.

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • Participates as an active member of the team with specific assignments related to the due diligence process for prospective investments working as directed by the Investment Managers.
  • Interacts and communicates with private equity firms, placement agents, investment bankers, entrepreneurs, CEOs, consultants, clients and prospective clients.
  • Participates in discussions and reference calls on backgrounds and track records of leaders of prospective investments.
  • Drafts documentation for the Investment Committee, as directed by senior investment team members and when appropriate.
  • Builds Excel models and other ad-hoc analysis to analyze current investment performance.
  • Actively participates in the fund monitoring function for Private Equity. Develops new processes and procedures for fund monitoring as directed by FWCPG.
  • Conducts research on news and trends within the private equity market related to firms, people, investments and markets and communicates findings to members of the Private Equity team.
  • Liaises with Operations on selected projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must currently be enrolled in an accredited degree program.
  • Proven academic and extracurricular track record with a demonstrated history of achievement.
  • Demonstrated quantitative background (e.g., economics, mathematics, etc.).
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to convey information, verbally and in writing, to internal and external customers in a clear, accurate, focused and concise manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of staff and management.
  • Proven ability to document procedures and activities in a manner that is understandable to others and prepared using a prescribed format.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communications are to conform to proper rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
  • Proven ability to complete tasks independently, accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills and process orientation.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information.
  • Demonstrated comfort with quantitative analysis, including identifying, defining and resolving complex problems. Ability to collect, quantify or interpret data to establish facts and draw valid conclusions and provide creative resolutions.
  • Some experience with Power Point, Word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Work Setting/Position Demands:

  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
