Overview

The Associate Equity Trader supports the equity trading function for Fort Washington Investment Advisors (FWIA). The role involves executing equity trades through both High Touch and Electronic Trading platforms with a client first approach. Under supervision of Senior Trader and in conjunction with other FWIA colleagues and sell side brokers, the Associate Trader will seek a strong understanding of the drivers of global equity markets; then communicating this to portfolio managers and analysts. The Associate Trader must be a curious professional willing to continually learn how the changing market structure affects the mechanics of an effective equity execution. The Associate Trader must seek best practices in all duties while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and assisting the Senior Trader with client reporting, and trade cost analysis.

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • Executes equity trades across domestic and international markets under supervision, utilizing both high and low touch trading platforms/venues to ensure adherence to best execution policies and procedures.
  • Continually works to understand and analyze trade cost analysis (TCA)/fill data to enhance best execution capabilities.
  • Assists in monitoring market conditions, individual stock liquidity, and price movements to provide trade execution insights to investment teams.
  • Collaborates closely with senior traders, portfolio managers, and analysts to understand portfolio strategies and trading objectives.
  • Maintains relationships with brokers and counterparties to optimize trading opportunities.
  • Helps manage order flow and trade allocations while ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Supports post-trade processes, including trade reconciliation, settlement coordination, and error resolution.
  • Stays informed about market developments, regulatory changes, and advancements in trading technology.
  • Prepares trading reports and assists in analyzing trade performance and trade cost analysis.
  • Identifies risks and follows appropriate processes and controls thereby reducing significant risk to the firm including material financial loss, as well as reputational damage to the firm.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Economics/Finance/Accounting or other relevant business degrees. - Required
  • Experience in trading, portfolio management, or financial markets - Required
  • Basic knowledge of equity markets, trading strategies, and execution methods Required
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and strong problem-solving skills Required
  • Proven strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail Required
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment Required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills Required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and adapt to new challenges Required
  • Proficiency with trading platforms, Bloomberg, Excel, and other financial software Preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial instruments, market structure, trade cost analysis and regulatory requirements Preferred

Work Setting/Position Demands:

  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects/events.

Travel Requirements:

  • 5% travel Occasional travel for training or industry conferences may be required
