Overview

Manages activities related to credit rating agencies, the Corporate Responsibility Program, and participates in investor relations. Manages relationships, strategy and communications to senior management. Performs complex financial analysis and crafts compelling presentations and other materials highlighting the Company's strengths. Carries out strategic initiatives of the department and the company. Will function as either a key subject matter expert or as a project lead on these projects. Works with minimal supervision and is responsible to independently make a broad range of critical decisions, escalating to executive level associates only when appropriate.

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • Manages rating agency relationships and processes with the four Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organizations, A.M. Best, Standard & Poor's, Moody's and Fitch.
  • Develops a strategy and presentation materials for management meetings with rating analysts. Works with company executives who present to the rating agencies during management meetings.
  • Responds to recurring and ad-hoc requests for data from the rating agencies.
  • Stays abreast of industry credit rating criteria, methodology, trends and developments of rating criteria. Reviews the credit opinions for proprietary information and factual accuracy, and responds accordingly.
  • Partners with senior management to maintain and enhance rating agency relationships.
  • Oversees the Corporate Responsibility-related efforts of the company.
  • Responsible for the annual Corporate Responsibility Report highlighting the company's Corporate Responsibility activities. Collects and reports on Corporate Responsibility-related data and metrics.
  • Stays up-to-date on Corporate Responsibility-related regulatory, rating agency and industry activity and keeps management informed.
  • Interacts with the Corporate Responsibility steering committee comprised of senior leaders and carries out strategic initiatives related to Corporate Responsibility.
  • Participates in investor relations activities, including preparation of data and materials for investor communications.
  • Develops competitive analysis and benchmarking for all areas of the enterprise. Stays current on trends in our business, networking and being aware of our competitors' strategies and initiatives.
  • Understands through detailed analysis and can explain to senior management the month-to-month and year-to-date fluctuations in the Company's financial statements.
  • Implements effective processes and procedures for accomplishing and improving the department's procedures.
  • Leads a team of individuals on projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree - Required
  • Proven work experience directing others to initiate a recommended course of action to solve a problem or increase efficiency. - Required
  • Demonstrated experience working where independent decision-making has been necessary. Proven experience must include identifying and resolving problems where independent decision-making and initiative are required. - Required
  • Demonstrated substantial technical financial knowledge and experience, especially related to statutory and GAAP reporting and financial statement analysis.
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and apply a broad business perspective in summarizing results.
  • Proven work experience directing others to initiate a recommended course of action to solve a problem or increase efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of staff and management. Demonstrated experience leading and motivating teams, including providing direction, coaching and effective feedback to team members.
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear, focused and concise manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including project development, organization and completion. Cite examples of project management skills in planning, executing and maintaining a project from start to finish.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills. Cite examples of organization and time management/methods used to manage or prioritize workload demands.
  • Demonstrated experience working where independent decision-making has been necessary. Proven experience must include identifying and resolving problems where independent decision-making and initiative are required.
  • Proven strong analytical skills, including demonstrated experience identifying and quantifying problems and providing effective resolutions.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and flexibility to lead a team of associates from cross-functional areas towards a common goal/vision.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and accounting applications.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Upon Hire - Preferred

Work Setting/Position Demands:

  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects/events.
